The international break has come, and the Leopards takes on Africa Cup of Nations qualifications journey against Gabon and Gambia. In January, DR Congo was eliminated in CHAN after being beaten by Indomitable Lions (Cameroon) 2-1. The Leopards scored the opening goal from Makabi Lilepo who headed the ball from a corner and put the DR Congo forward at the 20th minute of the first half time. The bana mboka’s joy did not last until in the 28th minute when an error by goalkeeper Ley Matampi allowed Cameroon to equalize through Yannick Ndjeng’s tapping. Things become worse when Felix Oukine registered the second goal after he powerfully shot the missile toward Congolese side and took a terrific deflecton on a defender’s leg and allowed the home team to take the lead.

After a tough challenge, DR Congo is back on duty and the head manager Christian N’Sengi has called-up his squad which includes Bwalya. Bwalya joined Al Ahly in January though he hasn’t had the best of performance so far with the Egyptian’s Red Devils. He has only scored one goal and contributed one assist in 12 games played with the Al Ahly across all competitions. However, N’Sengi, the DR Congo head coach decided to include the 25-year old striker in the team which will participate in the upcoming AFCON qualifications.

Walter is not the only Congolese player who is enjoying his first experience in Leopards A. Masasi has been also called up in the DR Congo National Team A after a prolific performance in Cameroon during CHAN competition. It is a great opportunity and experience for Amedee Masasi, who is going to give his contribution to the national team. There is no doubt that the head coach picked him over other players because he provided a sparkling performance during the last CHAN by scoring two most needed goals in two games. The midfielder will be one of the key players to expect in the Congolese team based on his current form and faith that N’Sengi (Head Coach) has for him.

Christian N’Sengi has a well middle line due to the return of Mputu, the presence of Bangala, Ngoma and Kayembe regardless the absences of different players. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, FIFA has allowed the clubs to restrict their players to attend in the international break duty if quarantine is mandatory on return. It is hard for so many African National Teams who have different players in France or elsewhere in Europe. No players playing in France Leagues are accepted to join their selections if they are outside the European Union. DR Congo is one of the country with many players in France and Belgium leagues. Therefore, DRC will have to play against Gabon and Gambia during AFCON qualifications without Glody Ngonda, Elia Meshack, and so many others. Gabon which will take on against DR Congo without three main players: Denis Bouanga, Ecuele Manga, and Didier Ndong.

DR Congo are in the AFCON qualifiers Group D, along with Gambia, Gabon and Angola, where they sit on the third place with six points from four games. It is scheduled that DR Congo without most of their players that play in European leagues will face Gabon and Gambia respectively later this month in the fifth and sixth qualifying around. It is clear that the current standing place of the team puts much pressure on both head coach and players. The Congolese side won’t do any mistake to secure their qualification in the next AFCON tournament.
